Starpower: Star Power Sewalong

Two session sew along (casual class) to piece the Star Power quilt top, pattern by Sarah J. Students may request help resizing the quilt to a table runner size or smaller or larger quilt top.

This is an advanced beginner level class. Participants should be familiar with rotary cutting, sewing 1/4" seams, pressing. Participants will learn pattern terminology, organizing cut pieces, half square triangles, flying geese, matching corners. Quilting through the layers and binding will not be covered in this class.

Instruction time is 11 am to 12:30 pm both days, and students are invited and encouraged to stay for extra sewing time after that till 5pm one or both days.  Lunch will be on your own, and you are welcome to bring your lunch with you or order in.

Please see list of materials needed, and note that we will give a discount on supplies purchased at The Paisley Star.
Skill Level:
beginner
Skill Details:
Students must be able to use their rotary cutter and rulers and sew on their sewing machine
Materials Included:
No
Requirements:
Students will need their sewing machine with attachments (both regular foot and 1/4" quilting foot are recommended) and usual sewing and quilting notions (pins, seam ripper, rotary cutter and rulers, marking pen/pencil, etc), plus the pattern, "Star Power" by Sarah J, thread, and specified materials. The 72" x 84" quilt top uses 34 fat quarters from the Flower Power collection by Maureen McCormick (we suggest buying a fat quarter bundle of the entire line from the shop) and 5 yards of Bella Solid #200. Students may choose alternate fabrics. We can help you figure out how much more or less you will need if you wish to alter the size of the quilt top. (Blocks finish at 12" square. If you need to add or subtract less than 12" increments, a border can help achieve that.) Your project can range from a 12" wide table runner to a king size quilt. The Paisley Star offers a 10% discount on regular price fabrics and notions you choose to purchase for the class in advance and on class days. We have large cutting mats, pressing board, and iron. Optional materials: scrap fabrics (two different colors), wool pressing mat, travel iron, pressing aid (starch alternative), rotating cutting mat, Magic Ruler, etc

Wendy is blessed to be the owner of The Paisley Star quilt and gift shop in Boscobel WI. She has been quilting and designing since her early teens and produces her own line of quilt patterns available only at her store. Her style is traditional with a focus on use of color and design, keeping in mind the ultimate use of the piece (as a bed quilt, wall quilt, table piece, etc). Wendy believes that anyone who wants to quilt is halfway to becoming a quilter already!
